The aim of ACTATE’s professional learning program is to offer teachers a strong blend of theoretical understanding and practical activities that can be used in the classroom.
ACTATE offers professional learning opportunities each term for teachers from years 7–12. Our sessions are based on current theory and expectations from the national and international perspective, with a local focus.
In 2011 our presenters have been Dr Steven Layne (engaging reluctant adolescent readers), Beverley Derewianka (grammar and the national curriculum), and local teachers sharing their practice, such as the term 1 session on teaching the novel and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. In term 3 we will explore virtual worlds with Jo Kay and we will further explore multimedia in our term 4 session.
